Brazil's new privacy law: what you need to know about the LGPD

Webinar recording available

The LGPD is Brazil’s first comprehensive data protection law. Inspired by the GDPR, the LGPD deviates from its inspiration in meaningful ways. And despite recent legislation delaying the LGPD’s administrative sanctions until mid-2021, the LGPD’s effective date remains in flux and could arrive as early as August 2020. On July 29, Hogan Lovells partners Bret Cohen and Isabel Carvalho from our Washington, DC and São Paulo offices were joined by Danilo Doneda, Professor at IDP and appointee of the Chamber of Representatives to the National Council of Data Protection and Privacy, to discuss the LGPD.

A recording of the webinar discussion can be accessed here.

Among other topics, the discussion examined:

  • Arrival of LGPD
  • Enforcement & applicability
  • Specific LGPD obligations
  • Preparing for LGPD
