The A Perspective Podcast: Andrew Skipper talks to Giles Peppiatt

In this episode, Andrew speaks to Giles Peppiatt, Director of Modern & Contemporary African Art at Bonhams in London. Giles established The South African Sale in 2007; a field in which Bonhams now leads the market, and one which has established London as the centre for the South African Art market.

Listen as they discuss Giles’ passion for African Art, what led him to develop this market in the UK and what changes he has seen in this space over the past decade and a half. Giles shares his views on both the barriers and opportunities for the growth of the market globally, and the importance of partnerships with African bidders, collectors, curators and, stakeholders in the region in overcoming barriers and leveraging opportunities. In this engaging and collegial conversation, the two also share their experiences of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, not only the market aspects of contemporary African art but how the art itself has meaningful relevance in times of crisis.
